Everything You Need To Know about the 2020 Kia Telluride
Families with two or more children may want to consider the Kia Telluride for their next family sport utility vehicle. In a market segment comparing to the Honda Pilot, Volkswagen Atlas, and the Ford Explorer, the Telluride is a great affordable option.
Kia started selling vehicles in the US in 1992, but in the first decade of the company’s presence in the US it was embattled with complaints of unreliability issues. Kia declared bankruptcy in 1997 and in 1998 Hyundai outbid Ford to take majority interest in Kia (Hyundai has since diversified and now owns about 34% of Kia). In 2006, Kia hired a new designer who has had tremendous influence regarding Kia’s quality and design improvements during the past decade. Because of the design changes in the past decade, people need to now take Kia more seriously as an option for their family’s needs.
Kia’s offerings to date in the SUV market have been the Sportage and Sorrento, which are small SUV’s. The Sorrento is a midsize SUV but fairly short in length not leaving much cargo room behind the third row. Enter the Telluride, which is a larger vehicle than the company has produced in the past. The Telluride seeks to appeal to families that need 3rd row seating and extra cargo space.
The Telluride has a 3.8-liter V-6 engine that produces 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The zero to 60 mph is approximately 7.1 seconds. Powertrain options include all-wheel drive and a self-leveling rear air suspension.
The Telluride is several inches longer than Kia’s previous largest SUV, the Sorento. The vehicle provides seating for eight with a second-row bench seat or room for seven with the optional captain’s chairs. Towing capacity is 5,000 pounds.
The Telluride starts at $31,690. Auto emergency braking and blind spot collision technology is standard in all trims. Options include heated and ventilated second row seats and a 10.5” touchscreen with heads-up display. Also available and 20” alloy wheels, LED headlights and fog lights, and satin chrome exterior accents.
The Telluride was selected as the 2020 Motor Trend SUV of the year. Reasons for the award include its “sophisticated styling, unmatched levels of standard equipment and smooth ride and handling.” Due to the styling, craftsmanship, and features, we highly suggest that you strongly consider the Kia Telluride when choosing your next family SUV.
